Dr. Clarice

Dr. Clarice (Bell) is a songwriter/musician/music producer...and a medical doctor. A native of Atlanta, she began playing the piano in church and writing songs as a respite from academics while in high school, college and medical school (Frederick Douglass High, New College and the University of Florida College of Medicine).

With most of her time dedicated to patient care, leaving little space for music, Dr. Clarice recently decided to
put down her stethoscope and pick up her keyboard once again. Taking a sabbatical from her medical practice to focus on music, she's proceeding with a new mantra: "I've spent years writing prescriptions. Now it's time to write songs."

Soon after this refocus on music, Boyz II Men would record a song she co-wrote (lyrics written about her children) entitled, "More Than You’ll Ever Know". The song became the first single from their album, “Twenty”, and remained on the Billboard charts for 19 weeks in 2011-2012.

Current releases of other songs written/co-written by Dr. Clarice include “Oooh Wee”, recorded by grammy-nominated artist, Charlie Wilson, and “Whisper”, which features Keith Sweat along side the veteran crooner. The two songs are on Charlie Wilson’s new album, “Love, Charlie”, released in 2013.

Part of a growing number of female music producers and multi-instrumentalists, Clarice enjoys writing and producing solo, as well as collaborating with the artistry of others, as a top-liner, lyricist, musician and/or track producer. With roots in both gospel and jazz piano, she writes fluently in the genres of pop, R&B/soul, and gospel. She loves her craft, hustles at it daily, and firmly believes, "Great songs aren't written. They are rewritten."

The mother of three musicians-in-the-making, ages 9, 8 and 6, she resides both in Atlanta and in gratitude for the journey and joy of music, motherhood, and medicine.
